Re-visiting Pen Cinema Flyover: The morning after

By Charles Okogene
There is no doubting the fact that the positive impact of the recently Inaugurated 1.4km long Pen Cinema Flyover is beginning to be felt by road users along that corridor.

Before Sanwo-Olu took it over

Since it was opened/commissioned for public use about three weeks ago, the hellish traffic logjam on that road that normally starts from College Bus Stop for those going to Iju, Abule – Egba and which usually  stretches up to Fagba Junction, during rush hours, is now a thing of the past.
A journey from Ogba to Fagba, which normally takes hours with vehicles with radiator problem breaking down on the road is equally a thing of the past as the free flowing journey now takes minutes to accomplish  to Ishaga roundabout in Iju or Jonathan Coker for those travelling to Abule-Egba in ward Sango Ota.
Same for those travelling to Oke-Koto, Pen Cinema from Ogba through Ijaiye Road. They begin to encounter the standstill traffic immediately after the Mobil filling station on the road and for those coming from Agege/Pen Cinema to Ogba/Ojodu, the logjam catches up with them from Catarpillar Bus Stop at Ogba but now, all these have become a past tense as the roads are now free of congestion, thanks to Sanwo-Olu and the flyeover.

After completion

Equally of mention is the gradual absence of street hawkers on the road. Especially those selling apples, oven fresh Polad  Bread and other things. The ubiquitous young girls and boys have all retreated to their shops, thus making the road less risky for motorists to drive on without the fear of being mobbed by criminals that mix up with the hawkers. Before, the road had become the rendervzous of the young boys and woman selling all manner of things. With the absence of cars on bumper to bumper drive on the road, the hawkers are gone and gradually, Okodas that travel like speed demons and riding against traffic are beginning to maintain their lanes especially at rush hours because the traffic that forces them to go against traffic (one way), is no longer there .
There are many good things one can say about the new bridge but for now, let us commend Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for competing the bridge, which was initiated by the immediate past governor of the state, Mr.Akinwunmi Ambode.
