Almost a year after its inauguration in Ibadan by the six governors of the South West,Ogun State formally inaugurated the state chapter of South West Security Operative,Amotekun in Abeokuta Thursday

During the ceremony, Governor, Dapo Abiodun,decorated Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, as the Super Marshall of corp codenamed Operation Amotekun in the state.
Abiodun decorated the Nobel laureate with some emblems of the Amotekun Corps during the inauguration ceremony.
The governor also commissioned scores of patrol vans and motorcycles to aid the operations of the Amotekun Corps.
While decorating the nobel laureate, the governor said, “This outfit is very close to his (Soyinka’s) heart and issues of security particularly in the South-West.
“On that note, I have a singular honour and privilege to present Prof some of the Amotekun insignias being the Super Marshall of Amotekun in Ogun State.”
It will be recalled that herdsmen and farmers crisis has reached it’s head in the state of recent and has seriously affected security of lives in the state especially after dislocation of Fulani herdsmen who have been terrorising neighbouring Oyo state.
Indeed, the herdsmen crisis in parts of the Ogun State has been disturbingly worsening in recent times with many residents of Yewaland displaced in far away Benin Republic.
The security challenges confronting the state has apparently overwhelmed men of the Nigeria Police Force, thus, necessitating the support of a law-backed security outfit like the Amotekun Corps.
It will be recalled that the six governors of the South-West had inaugurated the Western Nigeria Security Network also known as Operation Amotekun in 2020 to tackle peculiar security threats in the region.
