Gridlock on Iju Road as train, trailer collide

There is traffic gridlock this morning due to an accident involving a trailer loaded with goods and a train.

The incident occurred at the Iju area of Lagos.

This has caused massive traffic gridlock as motorists are standing still in the adjoining areas.

Eye witness told our reporter that a trailer loaded with some bagged items has cross the line when a train was coming from Alagbado end of the line causing a collision.

Lagos State Commissioner for Information Gbenga Omotoso warned road users against travels along the route pending the removal of the accidents truck and the train.

“A minor road accident between a train and a truck loaded with animal feed at Jonathan Coker Railway Level Crossing.

As a result of this, one of the front tyres has impeded the movement of the train. The air flow of the train has also been exhausted making the train to be stationary at this point, hence NRC is making frantic efforts at moving the train using another motor.

Consequently, vehicular traffic from Abule Egba inward Iju Road through Jonathan Coker is at a stand still. Motorists have been advised to make use of alternative roads to connect their destination(s).”

As at the time of filing this report, officials of the state emergency services were yet to arrival for the evacuation of the accidented vehicle and the train coach.

Motorists coming from Abule-Egba navigating towards Iju Road onward Ogba are all stuck while those from Agege, towards Iju and other adjoining areas are also stuck in the massive traffic.

The scene of the acccident is of those railway crossings already marked for overhead bridge in the ongoing reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan rail line.
