The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) on Tuesday disclosed that a whopping sum of N100m may go for the legal trial of 200 persons who have been caught over examination malpractices.

Board’s Registrar, Prof Isiaq Oloyede, said at a press briefing that not less than N500,000 would be paid as legal fee in the prosecution of each of the offenders.

While appealing against examination fraud, Oloyede said “ To prosecute one case you will have to spend nothing less than N500, 000 because your staff will be going from one place to the other. When they go to court, at times the court will not sit, you will go back as a witness, somebody travelling from Kano to Abuja or Abuja to Kano, will be going five times to do that.

“It cost a lot of money. Technology will give us all of them, we will now use federal character by picking across the states. And then prosecute, because we don’t have the resources to prosecute all of them.”

He said institutions should be vigilant while appealing to the young ones that the game is up.

He added, “There is nothing they do that will not be detected.

“At the appropriate time, we should prosecute at least 200 out of the 400. What we intend to do is to pick like five from each of the states of the federation.”

The JAMB Registrar said statistics show that most of the cases of examination fraud came from the North just as he listed Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Gombe, Bauchi, Borno and Sokoto states as particular cases.

He however clarified that this did not mean that the centres where these crimes are committed are owned by Northerners.

He said there is a centre in Kano which is notorious for criminal examination activities noting that the centre is run by a woman who hails from the South-South of the country.
