…Says ‘We are not getting encouraging response from FG’

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff of of Universities says its on going strike will continue because it is not getting encouraging results from federal government.
President of SSANU Mohammed Ibrahim, said on one occasion, the government team even said that issues relating to the disputed funds to settle the dispute would only be resolved when the Minister of Finance returned from her vacation.

“If there is commitment on the part of the government, they would have done everything to source for this fund,” Ibrahim said on Monday

He said the last meeting held with the Minister ended in a stalemate “because the answers we got were not encouraging.”

Asked if the workers went on strike because of lack of trust in government, Ibrahim said “If we don’t tryst government, we would not even talk to them.”

He said since there was not resolution of the issues involved, the unions could not have stopped the strike because “We don’t have the mandate to call off strike without getting back to the congress.”

He said the next meeting with the Government is slated for Thursday when it will be clear whether the government means well or merely buying time.
He said many of his members are suffering saying many of them have not been able to send their children to schools.
