The Federal ministry of agriculture and rural development has raised an alarm over outbreak of Avian Influenza otherwise known as Bird Flu in Kano and Plateau states.
This was contained in a memo sent to the Department of Veterinary services in all the states of the Federation by the Directorate of Veterinary and Pest Control Services,Abuja.
[The memo signed by Dr Olaniran Alabi dated January 29 and copied to all the Director of veterinary departments in all the states revealed that the flu was first discovered in two backyard farms in Kano with Ostrich, Cheese and Turkey adding that within a space of one week, the flu has spread to His in Plateau state with the likelihood that it will spread to other states soon.
In view of this development, the directorate urged all states in the country to put proactive measures in place to preempt spreading of the deadly disease to their states and protect the likelihood of poultry farmers and others
