…Says Nigeria Customs is a failed institution and enemy of the people
A socio- cultural group,G6 Ambassadors made up of prominent citizens of Yewa North local government area of Ogun state as condemned the incessant killings of youths in the area by men of Nigeria Customs Services(NCS).
In a press statement weekend signed by its President, Abiodun Fabuyi and Chairman of Media and Publicity,Boye Adesina,the group cited the killings Tuesday December 22 of youths in Ayetoro headquarters of the local government by men of the department under the guise of chasing smugglers when the town is not a border area.
The group recalled that such reckless and wicked incidents have previously occurred in Ipokia,Idiroko,Owode-Yewa,Imasayi,Igan Okoto and Imeko just to mention a few.
It queried why the men of customs had to embark on house to house “search under the beds for rice believed to have been struggled”?
According to the group such acts are not only very shameful,ridiculous and unprofessional,” they are below acceptable international best practises”.
“As responsible parents, we cannot fold our arms and looking at our children being killed by government agencies in the name of policing border.” It stated.
“Ayetoro is not a border town and therefore it is an act of excesses and irresponsibility for custom officers and men of Nigeria Army to leave border posts and Sambisa forests to kill innocent youths in Ayetoro” it declared.
As a result of the group called for the disbandment of Comptroller General Patrol Team and total overhauling of the service for better service delivery of its lawful duties in a more professional and humane manner adding that the Nigerian army to desist from being a collaborator in the killing of innocent youths in the country.
