The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce has issued a seven days quit notice to squatters in illegal structures at Fagba nrar the rail line on Abattoir Road in Oko-Oba, Agege, near Lagos.
It will be recalled that Newdawnngr,last September did a special picture story on the squatters settlement which borders the new rail line and the adjoining roads causing environmental nuisance in the community.
Besides,the hoodlums who live in the squatters were said to be responsible for the escalation of conflict and violence in the area which led to looting and arson during the #Endsars protest.
The Head of Public Affairs of the task force, Taofiq Adebayo, issued a notice to the squatters in a statement in Lagos on Sunday.
Adebayo said the illegal structures were home to hoodlums.
He confirmed that the hoodlums destroyed property in the area during the recent #EndSARS protest.
He said over 2,500 illegal structures and shanties, including shops and containers had been served quit notices.
Adebayo said: “It is an eye-sore seeing miscreants, including under-age boys smoking Indian hemp freely in the area.
“Residents around Fagba can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed, due to series of criminal activities perpetuated by these notorious boys.”
According to Adebayo, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has directed that after the expiration of the seven-day quit notice, any hoodlum arrested should be charged to court.
The spokesman said the Chairman of the task force, Olayinka Egbeyemi, had assured that the task force would not relent in securing the environment for citizens.
