..I’m not aware Buhari gave orders to soldiers-Enang
Member of the judicial panel of inquiry into the Lagos police brutality,Ebun Adegborua has vowed that he will relinquish his membership if not allowed to interrogate government officials in the course of investigations into massacre at Lekki Toll gate.
He spoke Tuesday morning on the Sunrise programme on Channels Television.
Said he,”my continued presence in panel will be predicated on having asses to interrogate the system and all those involved and also investigate the government itself”.
He expressed regret that the military moved in when the curfew has been extended to 9pm and could not allow the various people on their way to disperse.
The Lagos lawyer said it is unfortunate that the present All Progressive Party(APC) which came into power in 2015 as a result of public protest is now persecuting the culture which brought it into power.
He described the killing of peaceful protesters as indefensible act since the protesters in Lekki are the most organised, urbane and focused of all the protesting points in the country.
Adegboruwa wondered why soldiers were not brought in to quench protesters in Abuja,Edo and even Mushin in Lagos where police stations were burnt and prisoners set freed adding, “it is not by shooting live bullets that you can engage people”.
” Why is it that the soldiers were not drafted to where there are cases of violence and thugs joining the protest and vandalising as we have in Abuja,Edo and other states”.he queried.
He asserted that those responsible for the killings must be brought to book .
In his own comment,Senator Ita Enang, the special adviser to President Buhari on Niger delta matters said he is not aware if the president as commander in chief gave orders for the shooting adding that he has explored all ways to pacify the Endears protesters and bring them to the negotiating table.
He expressed the sympathy to those who died in the Lekki massacre and said government will be ready to meet the leadership of the protesters to iron out issues concerning their grievances.
