Ize-Iyamu votes, says exercise peaceful so far

The Candidate of the All Progressive Congress in the on-going governorship poll in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has cast his vote at exactly 9:25am.

Ize-Iyamu, said the exercise so far has been peaceful saying he intends to monitor other parts of the state to see what is happening.

Speaking after voting, the APC candidate said, “This morning it was drizzling. You can see its veyr peaceful. We are very happy we have a peaceful atmosphere. I am also happy too that you can vote with some level of privacy. If this process I am seeing here is replicated across the state, I am sure we would have a credible poll.

Meanwhile, reports from all over the state reveals that the Independent National Electoral Commission( INEC), has kicked off the exercise with the display of voters register at Ward 2, Unite 3, by Rest House Road Junction, Igarra, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.

Edo Decides Photos: Voters, INEC officials at Eguare Primary School, Ekpoma

Voters and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission have been observed at Eguare Primary School in Ekpoma of Edo State failing to maintain the standard social distancing prescribed for the conduct of the election.

There is also heavy presence of security personnel at the Benin City office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) along Ramat Park.

Two Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) were seen before and after the office while traffic is being diverted to follow one lane.

Gun-wielding policeman and soldiers were also sighted on the premises.
As at 8am which is the official commencement time for today’s election, officials of the Independent National Electoral commission were just arriving to set up their facilities for the exercise.

At Eguare Primary School (Egoro) Ward, election officials were just arriving at about 7:35am while there was no presence of security agents

The stage is set and tensions are running high as 14 candidates slug it out for the seat of the Edo Governor across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state today.

Prominent among the 14 candidates are the major contenders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The build up to the election has been filled with intrigues comprising of claims and counter-claims on victory.

Until the time the peace accord was signed by the candidates, it had been a no love lost affair between the major contenders.

The exercise, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission is billed to commence by 8 am today.

Expect updates from Newdawnngr as events unfold across the 18 Local Government Areas, 192 Wards, 2,627 polling units and 4,011 voting points of the state.
