Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has stated that the result of Edo State Governorship election will have a lasting effect on the concept of Political Godfatherism in Nigeria.
Wike said this while featuring on Sunrise Daily programme on Channels television on Thursday.
He noted that the election would determine if Godfatherism would continue in the country.
Wike also lamented the effects of Godfatherism in politics, saying it distracts the elected political officer from concentrating on good governance.
He said, “Edo State Governorship election has wide implications beyond Edo State, it would determine if Godfatherism will be allowed to continue in Nigeria.”
The Edo State Governorship election is billed for September 19, 2020 where the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate and Governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki would tussle it out with the Candidate of the All Progressives Congress,APC, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, among others.
