If alive today, Abiola might have visited Dapo, governor of his state, to give him the cheque for the whole sum and jovially rebuked him in his unique stammering intonation spiced with the ancient Egba dialect “Ha! Not all of them are government workers like you who are have access to public purse like you. Our governor, please don’t let government kill those who covid did not kill o. That’s the reason I came to see you. In fact, I supposed to be in London today, from there to Germany. But I have to cancel the trip because of these our children. I did WAEC too and I had Grade One, you can confirm at BBHS, Saje, Abeokuta. It’s not good for candidates to sit for exams with troubled minds with uncertainty so that they can pass well..)
But Dapo won’t, do his own philanthropy now, he will wait for the election period when he suddenly becomes an emergency street philanthropist and won’t mind spending billions of Naira bribing political merchants, editors, political thugs, cultists, social media touts, picking bills of the needy, buying indomie noddles, rice, bread & akara, lafun & ikokore in a seductive process of vote buying.
If he’s not picking the covid bill personally, Ogun State can pick that easily, fumigate all schools and also provide covid prevention materials in all schools irrespective of ownership.
In fact, Ogun State government should also provide nutritious meals for exiting students for the duration of preparation & examination period so as to psychologically prepare these young Nigerians who had gone through covid-19 emotional distress. This gesture will relieve many economically degraded parents and everybody will be happy with more commitments to their state and government.
Our government in Nigeria should learn how to be humane in principle and actions, even if they are still going to steal major chunk of the money, refrain from behaving like street touts or violent tax collectors imbued with the psychology of exploiting everything for money and looting.
