Rape,the four letter word has taken number one position in criminal activities in the country as 700 of suspevts in various locations between January and May this year.
Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu disclosed this while giving an update on cases of sexual violence reported in parts of the country.
According to him, there is an escalation in incidents of rape and other gender-based violence during the COVID-19 lockdown.
He made the remarks on Monday while briefing State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He however noted that 631 cases have been conclusively investigated and charged to court while 52 cases are still under investigation.
