…..Ruling house accuses Ogun government of inconsistency
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state through the state ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs, has reversed itself over the suspension of the process of appointing a new Oba of Ipokia, the Onipokia of Ipokia,in the Ipokia local government of the state.
It will be recalled that the local government ministry had in its letter of May 10th,2019 nullified the process of the next Onipokia a step which was challenged in court by Iwaye Dodo ruling house and later slated for hearing on the 30th May this year but could not hold due to the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown.
However,in a new twist to the case, the ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs which initially nullified the earlier process had through a letter dated 30th March,2020 reverted its earlier decision on the nullification of the process which it did last year and and mandated the chairman of the Transition Committee of Ipokia local government to proceed with the selection process it had earlier nullified.
According to the letter signed by one Adesina Adewuyi,Director ,Chieftaincy Affairs, the nullification process it earlier to the local government is no lover valid.
As a result of this development the Iwaye Dodobioke Ruling house consisting of Asade,Adekanbi,Oteni and Okeleye ruling house has written a protest letter signed by Aguda Okeleye Ruth, secretary to the Ruling house, and sent to Governor Abiodun of the new development and to protest against the installation of one Yisa Olaniyan whose selection process was earlier annulled last year but which annulment is being reversed more so when the case is in the state high court.
In the letter(copy attached),the ruling house urged the governor not to succumb to pressures to disobey court order adding,”we therefore ask your excellency to rise to the occasion and use your legal powers to uphold the rule of law which includes(respect for laws of Nigeria, Ogun state and the judiciary) as you swore to do in your oath of office and forestall further actions on the Onipokia Stool pending the determination of the case over the subject matter.
