Oniru tussle: Why Tinubu’s aide may emerge oniru in three legged race

Three factors are set to determine who occupies the seat of the next Oniru of Iruland,a commercially viable portion of Lagos Island ,as the race gate interesting among the three contenders in the Abisogun Ruling house which turn it is to produce the next Oniru according to laid down tradition.

Our sources revealed that the choice of Hakeem Ajasa who is seen to be representing the interest of the land owners in the ruling house is being resisted because of the enormous powers they allegedly arrogated to themselves in the community.
This ‘sins’,pur sources revealed,ranges from unilateral imposition of taxes,levies and other forms of illegal payments imposed on tenants such that they have become law unto themselves.
The grievances against Ajasa, who is from the same ruling house with Gbolahan Lawal,the front line contender,and he(Ajasa) was former chief security officer to former governor Of Osun state, Rauf Aregbesola, was his close identification with the land speculators who sources say have incurred the wrath of corporate organisations and individuals who felt threatened by his likely emergence in view of the various economic levies those supporting him have introduced with the state government apparently helpless in dealing with them.

The issue of Eko Atlantic City which has become another black gold to corporate organisation and individuals who feared that his emergence may pose a serious threat to their hold” also becomes a crucial economic factor declared a notable figure from the area.
There is also this feeling that they have become too proud and may definitely become too powerful to control by any government because of their enormous wealth which one of them ascending the throne will be a threat to any government in Lagos and difficult to control.

Another influence is the Oba of Lagos Rilwan Akiolus factor.
He is known to favour Segun Oniru,who he brought to the police.He is also the eldest son of the late Oniru.
Oniru insisted on being the anointed candidate forgetting that it is not permanent by tradition,it is rotational hence, it is the next ruling house that should produce the new Oba.
As for the political factor,the interest of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is said to be paramount in order to have Obas they can call upon to sway them to their support. Besides,he has his varied economic interest in Lagos.
It is this interwoven interests that informed his support for Gbolahan Lawal ,who served under former Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola as special adviser. He was found to be disciplined and honest.
Today,he occupies the ministry of agriculture and natural resources and the Kevel of the confidence in him by the Babajide Sanwoolus government is reflected in his ministry being in charge of the donations for the funds for the management of Coronavirus pandemic in the state.

Besides,he is well read and a holder of a masters degree which forms part of what is expected of today’s traditional rulers.
