COVID-19: Ekiti State records five new cases, discharges two- Commissioner

The Ekiti state government has disclosed that the state has recorded another five new cases of Covid 19 and also discharged the last two patients at the isolation centre.

The commissioner for Health and Human Services Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade stated this at the press briefing by members of the Covid 19 Task Force held at Conference Hall, Governor’s office ,Ado -Ekiti.

Dr Yaya-Kolade noted that the five new index cases were those from the contacts of the second death recorded in the state few days ago.

“The cases were 3 patients who shared ward with the death case recorded in the state and 2 health workers who attended to her at a Tertiary Health Institution in the state”. She hinted.

The Commissioner further revealed that the state discharged two patients from the state isolation centre having tested negative to Covid 19 two consecutive times .

“The state now has 5 new active cases having discharged the two existing patients this morning” she noted.

In his contribution, the Coordinator of the Taskforce and Director General Office of Transformation and Strategy Prof. Bolaji Aluko noted that incursions across our borders are sad issue lamenting that most of the primary cases the state has recorded were those from other States of the federation.

“The woman that infected these five new cases was from Omu-Aran in Kwara state”. It has always been like that. We have no community spread of the Virus in Ekiti state”. He disclosed.

Prof. Aluko said that government is currently working with the communities especially the border towns to ensure that they identify anyone coming into the state.

The Taskforce Coordinator said that the state was currently consulting religious leaders on how to reopen worship centres across the state assuring that the state government would do everything possible to ensure that Ekiti becomes Corona Virus free soon.

“We shouldn’t forget that the state is still under Curfew from 8pm to 6am, this is different from the federal government order”. No one is allowed into the state during this hours “. He explained.

While contributing, the Commissioner for Environment Hon. Gbenga Agbeyo revealed that the state has just procured a modern fumigating machine to ensure effectiveness and efficiency and to really show the seriousness of this government in the fight against this pandemic.
