Another batch of youths travelling from Northern Nigeria to the South, was intercepted on Sunday morning, this time, by the Benue State Taskforce on COVID-19, as they moved in a tanker with 11 motorcycles.
Bemgba Iortyom who narrated how the incident happened, spoke of how the said tanker, which was not carrying any consignment of oil, had the motorcycles strapped to its body while seven persons suspected to be almajiris were found stowed in its passenger hold, at the Agan area along Laafia- Makurdi highway.
“The driver of the tanker has claimed that he is on his way to Lagos to load oil and only picked up the suspected youths as passengers in Nasarawa State to be dropped in Edo State.
“Officials of the Taskforce, however, reminded him that he was acting in violation of the federal ban on interstate travel by conveying non-essential goods as well as illegal passengers.
Consequently, the tanker’s driver was ordered to turn back and return to its destination with its illegal cargo by Benson Abounu the Deputy Governor and state chairman of the committee.
