Dangote Industries Limited, came out in staunch defence on Thursday to debunk stories making the round that it is lending its facilities haul Almajirai from the northern parts of the country to the South East in contravention of the ban on inter-state movement to curtail the spread of Covid-19 in Nigeria.
The company in a statement in a letter addressed to the President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, dated May 27, 2020. In the letter, entitled ‘Allegation of Illegal Haulage against Dangote Industries Ltd’, signed by Dangote’s branding and communications officer, Anthony Chiejina, the company denied any involvement in such movement.
Nwodo and some southern stakeholders, perturbed by incessant migration of northern youths to the southeast, had expressed worries over the connivance of the industrial giant in bringing Amajirai to the southeast, urging the firm to stop the act. Some of the youths were seen hidden Dangote lorries carrying commodities.
But debunking the claim, the company, said: “It categorically denies these spurious and misleading allegations, and hereby calls upon the public to disregard such report.”
It further called on the general public to assist the company in ridding the organisation of illegal haulage activities, which it said, were acts of unscrupulous persons using its trucks. It also called on the law enforcement agents to arrest any Dangote driver and his assistant caught in the act, requesting the citizenry to report erring drivers.
