COVID-19: Ekiti records four new index cases, discharges four patients

The Ekiti State government has disclosed that there were 4 new index cases of Covid 19 in Ekiti state.

The commissioner for Health and Human Services Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade stated this at the press briefing by Members of Covid 19 Task Force held at Conference Hall , Governor’s office ,Ado- Ekiti.

Biodun Olofe,Information in health and human services ministry quoted Dr Yaya – Kolade as noting n that the new cases involved an aged patients receiving treatment at Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital where he was diagnosed of the virus , a 35 year old male from Katsina state and a 32 year old male from Ibadan as well a woman, 38 from Lagos who have been in the government quarantine centre since their arrival into the state.

“When they attempted sneaking into the state they were arrested by security operatives and quarantined at the state quarantine centre. Days after Covid 19 test was conducted on them their result showed that the three of them had contacted the Virus”. She said.

The commissioner also hinted that the state has discharged four of its five index cases leaving the state with five active cases.

She appealed to Ekiti residents to ensure that they observe all rules and regulations regarding the pandemics.

In his contribution, the Coordinator of the Task Force Prof. Mobolaji Aluko disclosed that the state Fund Raising and Mobilization Committee has received cash donations of 631million naira from 334 donors from whitin and out of the state noting that the fund is being managed and coordinated by the committee.

Prof.Aluko Said that the state borders are closed to all nonessential workers adding that citizens vigilance was helping the government to identify violators at border towns.

While contributing, the commissioner for Environment Hon. Gbenga Agbeyo hinted that the state has started carrying out intensive re- fumigation of Ado- Ekiti metropolis.

Mr Agbeyo said that the state Governor Dr.Kayode Fayemi has ordered that the fumigation exercise should be extended to other local government areas of the state.
