Ekiti Government has sealed off two private hospitals in the state.
The State Commissioner for Health and Human services Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade made the disclosure at the Press briefing by members of the Ekiti state Covid 19 Task Force Members at the conference hall Governor’s office , Ado – Ekiti.
Dr Yaya – Kolade noted that the affected two facilities were those that their staff treated the index case that died of Covid 19 in the state.
The Commissioner disclosed that private hospitals are not licensed to treat Covid19 patients noting that any private hospital that wishes to attend to Covid-19 should apply to Federal Ministry of Health through the state Ministry of health for approval .
“The step to seal off the two facilities was taken to allow for fumigation and to prevent further spread of the deadly Coronavirus among staff of the affected facilities”. She stated.
In a related development Dr Yaya – Kolade revealed that the State Government has promised to take responsibility of the newborn baby of the deceased index case who she noted was in good and stable health condition.
“As we speak now the state has only one active index case, a 45 year old medical practitioner and he is in stable condition.” She hinted.
In his contribution, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources in the state Hon. Gbenga Agbeyo disclosed that the state would observe its monthly environmental sanitation on Saturday 25th of April 2020 and warned that any resident that flout the order would be dealt with accordingly.
Hon. Agbeyo echoed that the major markets in the state remain closed until further notice to contain the spread of the Covid 19 pandemic.
While speaking on security situation, the Director General of the Office of Transformation and Strategy Prof. Bolaji Aluko said that all boundaries in the state have been adequately secured adding that all Kabiyesi and community leaders were carried along .
Prof.Aluko stated that state government palliative was continuous noting that the state has extended the palliative to the Muslim community in the state as they started Ramadan fast.
Also on the efforts of the government at the grassroot level, the special Adviser to the Governor on public Health Dr Jimlas Ogunsakin said that the team has been engaging communities through their traditional rulers and relevant stakeholders on sensitizing their subjects on regular hand washing, use of sanitizers and face mask.
He warned that residents of Ekiti should be conscious of the face masks been sold around saying that it has been gathered that most vendors now pick used and disposed face masks which he said can aid the spread of coronavirus.
