NASS members more prudent than ministers, head of MDAs, others – Fadahunsi

Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Senator Francis Fadahunsi,  has said that contrary to widely held belief, National Assembly members are more prudent in their life style than ministers,head of parastatals and service chiefs who he side live in opulence.
Speaking in an interview on Television Continental programme ,Crossfire,he said that while senators and house of representative members who were elected by the people had only one official vehicles,ministers and head of parastatals and service chiefs go about in convoy of cars all at the expense of taxpayers.
He said while senators and house of representative members campaigned round their constituencies all over the country, the members of the executive who are nominees and appointees of the President enjoy more perks of office than those elected by their people.
Senator Fadahunsi who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) for Osun east senatorial district,contended that senators work harder than most exco members as they perform oversight functions,visit their various constituencies regularly adding,’ the ministers have a convoy of vehicles and other perks of office in the same league with banks chief executive,members of the board of government parastatals who are not elected by the people.What is more,most of them are invited from abroad and just brought here to serve without responsibility to their constituencies”.
He called on the citizenry to focus more on the ministers, special advisers and head of parastatals who are not elected by the people unlike NASS members who have more responsibilities to their constituencies.
He said that what senators and reps members earn today is not enough considering their responsibilities adding,”I control 11 local governments in my state and I cater for the need of the people.whatever we earn is not enough to take care of our responsibilities “.
Senator Fadahunsi accused most of the state governors of abadoning their states and stay in Abuja ,all in a bid to see the face of the President rather than staying in the state where they are elected to serve.
He also questioned the wisdom in the closure of the nations borders adding that while borders are closed to prevent slugged goods from coming in,exporters of locally produced goods cannot also export their produce sourced from local raw materials.
He identified lack of experts to man the nations borders as the source of smuggling adding,” customs is purposely established to facilitate trade among nations”.
He questioned the rationale of leaders waking up one day and close the borders.
As for him,as things stands today,”border closure is no more serving the purpose it was meant to serve and has become counter productive as smuggling of rice and other prohibited items have resumed at the nations borders.”
