…Says Nigeria is wobbling
Former Deputy Vice Chairman (South West) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to convey a meeting of eminent leaders all over the country to dialogue towards arresting the nation’s drift to anarchy.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Newdawn in his Ikoyi, Lagos home on Monday, he said that the urgent meeting should involve former leaders such as heads of state, traditional rulers, religious leaders, academia, retired generals and opinion leaders who will proved solutions and way forward for the country in the face of daunting security challenges.
As for him, it is better for the country to talk, the talk instead of war, war. He contended that the number one priority of any government is to secure the lives of its citizens, an action, which he said has made the initiative of South West governors that launch the security outfit, Amotekun, commendable.
He said that as things stands, today the nation is at the edge of precipice and could degenerate unless urgent action is taken to arrest the ship of state and achieve stability, which is seriously undermined by the appalling security situation.
“When the ship of a nation is rudderless, and heading for a turbulent situation, the first thing to do is arrest the ship and stabilise it adding. When the security and peace of the nation is seriously threatened as it is now, the first concern of an average Nigerian is to take drastic steps to stabilise it, we are at the edge of the precipice.”
On the 2023 general election, he said it is out of place to talk of a succession when the nation is adrift adding that those talking of 2023 now are not even sure whether they will be around.
“There is hunger, unemployment, insecurity in the land and we got to find a lasting solution to them towards ensuring the nation’s stability because without doing that we can’t talk of any election in 2023. Let’s stabilise the nation first,” he said .
He also called on Nigerians to restitute in their ways such that the forthcoming Christian lent session starting on Wednesday should be an opportunity, “to go back for restitution and to ask God for forgiveness.”
