FG should be careful in re-absorbing Boko Haram ‘repentants’, Nyiam and Fapohundaa

Two prominent Nigerians have asked the promoters of the Bill to create an agency for the Boko Haram repentants to exercise caution and take measures to de-radicalise the group before reintegrating them back into society through the creation of an agency for their reabsorption.
Speaking in an interview on Television Continental programme(TVC) Your View in Lagos Monday morning,Col Tony Nyiam,an activist said it is rather difficult to reintegrate the insurgents into the society since their reasons is ideological and needed to be deradicalised through the use of religious leaders who needed to convince them of the wrong motive for their action.
Said he,”I find but hard to belief that people use religion to justify their violent acts”
Ñyiam contended that any move to reintegrate the insurgents should also take into consideration the role of the civilian joint task force who should also be involved since they are also victims of the activities of the violent group.
Besides,he contended that is is wrong for the country to copy a system that is obtainable in the advanced countries who are more civilised in their approach and causative factors responsible for acts of insurgency different from what obtains in Nigeria.
In answer to a question,Col Nyiam said it is wring to equate or compare Book haram activities with Niger delta militants who are fighting for purely begin omit deprivation and the fact that their activities are on my restricted to the oil producing are as of the country.
For the efforts to yield result,Nyiam suggested an increase in the number of military men deployed to the North east region of the country to contain the insurgents.
In his own contribution,Professor Bankole Fagbohungbe ,head of the department of Psychology of the University of Lagos ,said it is rather difficult to de-radicalise an ideologist adding that their minds have to first of all be reconditioned to only belief in the way of violence to press for their advocacy.
Besides,he argued that since the activities of the BH have affected so many victims,”to now give a soft landing to the perpetrators is not going to work”.
Fagbohungbe identify three processing to change an ideology name to remould them gradually which takes a lot of time and also restraining them from the violent ways.
“De-radicalisation is not so simple.you just don’t throw people out like that and when you have situation like that,you first unfreeze,reclaim and reorient them.” He declared.
