Alake of Egbaland,Oba Adedotun Gbadebo Okukenu 11, has described the amalgamation of Nigeria by Lord Lugard in 1914 as a great disaster to the country.

He said that it took the British government eight months to get the then Egba United government to come under the rule of the new country.

Oba Gbadebo said that before the amalgamation the then Egba United government(EUG) took a loan to electrify the kingdom and provide water even before Lagos did adding that the loan was paid back on schedule.
He added that this was done before Lagos did a similar thing adding that amalgamation was a set back for the country.
He said that though he believed in the country only a restructuring of the country can make it work

The Alake condemn the action of the Oluwo of Iwo in slapping a fellow Oba at a meeting as a sacrilege and dent on the traditional institution in the country.

Speaking in the television programme, Your View on Tuesday, Oba Gbadebo said the action of the Oluwo is unheard of as an Oba adding, “I don’t agree with his actions and it is totally unheard of.it is totally indefensible.somebody has to apologise because it is against the sacredness .

On what could be done to arrest the security situation in the country, he said outfits like south west security initiative Amotekun, should be embraced to complement the efforts of the police.

The Alake also advocated for the education of the girl child to bring about even development of the country.
He said the forthcoming launching of the Egba United Foundation is in commemoration of the exploits of Lisabi Agbongbo Akala, the warrior who liberated the Egba from the yoke of Oyo imperialism in a bid to galvanise the Egba for community development.
