Joseph Atule and Gambo Muhammad strike condemned Warri Wolves to another defeat on the road
Golden boy Atule and veteran Gambo first and second half strikes respectively ensured Katsina United maintained their unbeaten home record as they ran away with a 2 – 1 win over Warri Wolves in a balanced encounter decided at the empty Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina
Atule who seemed to be enjoying his first ever premier league season with Katsina United scored his third goal of the season at the nick of halftime stoppage.
The former Kebbi United winger, voted man-of-the-match, expressed his happiness while speaking with www.npfl.ng.
“Yap, I am so happy to score again today and at the same time delighted with the three points.
“My target is to keep scoring and help my team to achieve something tangible by the end of the season.”,said Atule
“I dedicate today’s goal to our fans who did not have the privilege to see the game today. I want to use this opportunity to tell them to keep praying for us and we will continue to make them proud. Atule concluded
Both teams started the game with high intensity and created some scoring opportunities but the two goalkeepers were brilliant in making fabulous saves.
Daniel Mark’s close range effort that could have put the visitors in front on 8 minutes was deflected to corner by Ikechukwu Nwachukwu to ensure that the score line remained goalless
Katsina United also came close seven minutes later through former Kano Pillars striker Gambo but his long range strike narrowly missed the mark.
Ubido Julius was a forced substitute on 26 minutes after he collided with Destiny Ashadi in the middle of the park, he was replaced by Iteji Jimmy.
Another chance came begging for Katsina United on 33 minutes, this time, Destiny’s effort could not find the target after being set up by Tasiu Lawal
Atule would then break the deadlock for Katsina United at the nick of the halftime stoppage to give Katsina United the all important lead.
On resumption Warri Wolves came out smoking as they searched for the equalizer.
They posed some threat in the attack at the early minutes of the second half but the resolute defence of Katsina United led by Ikechukwu Nwachukwu and Frank Kappe repelled them.
Katsina United doubled their lead on 55 minutes through a well taken long range drive by NPFL veteran, Gambo who took his goal tally for the season to two.
Wolves tried to create something with a fantastic link up between Williams Sunday and Charles but Adekunle does well to thwart their crafty play on 60th minute
With 70 minutes on the clock, Atshimene pulled on back for Warri Wolves from the penalty spot after Lukman Muhammed tripped Atshimene in the box.
Both teams made tactical substitutions but the score line remained 2 – 1 at end of 90 minutes in favour of Katsina
