President Muhmmadu Buhari, has drawn the ire of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who called him out, on Wednesday, for saying 90 per cent of the victims of insurgency in Nigeria are Muslims.
Buhari made the comment in an article he authored on Tuesday, while condemning the execution of the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Adamawa chapter, Lawan Andimi, by Boko Haram, while trying to adduce the argument that Christians were being targeted in the decade-old carnage wrought on the country by the terrorist group.
Atiku, an indigene of Adamawa State, who squared up to Buhari in the February 23 presidential election in 2019 and went up to the Supreme Court to challenge the President’s victory, took to his Twitter account to drivel the President for making such a comment.
He saw the reaction as rationalising the killing by the terrorists, saying it did not matter whether the victims were Muslims or Christians as long as they were human beings, whose lives and not the number should be the issue.
He wrote: “We mustn’t rationalise killings. Whether Christian, Muslim, Traditionalist, or Atheist, the killing of any human being, by Boko Haram, or any misguided group, is wrong & should be condemned unequivocally. There is no compulsion in religion. Only love.”

90% of Boko Haram victims are Muslims – Buhari
Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said 90 per cent of all Boko Haram’s victims in the past years have been Muslims. The insurgents began their heinous activities in 2009 after the killing of their leader.
