Human rights lawyer to detained activist and leader of the Revolution Now Movement, Femi Falana yesterday disclosed that for the second time,lawyers to the Department of state security services and the DSzs representatives have apologized for their demeanour before Justice Ojukwu of the Federal High court in Abuja.
Falana who spoke in Lagos at the 14th Sole Soyinka centre for investigative journalism award where the vice president wrote a letter explaining his inability to attend said yesterdays evening move was in spite of continuous denial by two spokesperson,Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu,that the federal government stood by the DSS actions.
He said the SSS indeed sent a delegation to the federal high court over the criminal invasion in spite of the fact that on that day the judge did summon the lawyers to SSS and lead prosecutor to the chamber.
He described statements issued by the duo as not only insulting Nigeria’s collective intelligence but also full of lies.
He advised media practitioners not to peddle lies which is a serious matter.
He enjoined awardees not to allow their jobs to finish with the award but to follow up some of the wonderful stories and fight injustice which has ravaged the land until it is over.
In his own remark,Jiti Ogunye,a member of the board enjoin journalists to regard their job as very important to remaking the country adding that for now the right to freedom of speech is under assault in the country.
In his speech,the chairman of the board of the WSIR,Professor Ropo Sekoni said it is instructive to note that this years award is coming a day to the United Nations anti corruption day to assure accountability and social justice and democracy in the country.
He said it is instructive that the attainment of credible election is crucial to attainment of good governance and democracy.
