Several communities from different settlements where our forefathers – Lapeleke and Akinale – had traversed as Owu peace keeping force for Abeokuta and districts in the past centuries, trooped to Akinale Friday November 1, 2019, to celebrate their benefactors through the annual Owu traditional yam festival.
Few days after their premier traditional leader, the Olowu of Owu in Abeokuta, has symbolised tasting the new yam during “Odun Omo Olowu” the Owu war lords, led by Akogun Owu, would also celebrate the yam eating. Our forefathers, who were frontliners in the peace keeping force for Abeokuta and districts are in this category and they religiously adhered to this custom and tradition.
Baales and community members from Lapeleke town, Onihale town and Agodo town, among others in Ewekoro local government brought farm produce including yam to honour Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, Towulade Akinale, at the cultural exposition witnessed by a lot of guests including high chiefs from Owu kingdom and our friends from across the country. It was exquisite and culturally expository
