The Speaker, Cross River State of Assembly, Mr Eteng Jonah
Williams, has reaffirmed the commitment of the 9th Assembly to work for the people of the state in a bid to reduce poverty and suffering.

Eteng who stated this during a live interview with FAD 93.1
FM flagship programme – Early Risers in Calabar, maintained that he will rather suffer than see the people suffering.

The legislative head also refuted claims that the lawmakers got kickbacks before approving the N5 billion loan sent to it by Governor Ben Ayade.

He maintained that the house only undertook its statutory
legislative obligations by approving the 5 billion naira sent to it, noting
that the money was meant to offset pension and gratuity of retirees.

On alleged closure of the house in view of lack of funds, Mr Eteng said the parliamentarians are on working recess and not on strike as speculated by the people.

On the autonomy of the legislature and judiciary, the Speaker said it is the best thing that will happen to the two arms of government.

However, the lawmaker from Yarkurr II state constituency expressed concern on the state of infrastructure particularly the roads in and around Cross River State.
