IGP Adamu who said he was impressed with the quality farm produce of the University, added that, the Police Cooperative will henceforth patronize the farm products of the University to encourage local content.
The Police Chief stated this at the weekend in Abeokuta, while receiving the locally refined agricultural products of the institution presented to him by Prof. Felix Kolawole Salako.
He said, “I’m going to personally taste all these farm products you have given me except the palmwine, but I will eat the rest. But it will not end there, I will instruct the Police cooperative to patronize FUNAAB and make you our official markets.”
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Felix Salako explained the preparedness of the University to meet up with the demand of the Nigeria Police Force.
Prof. Salako said since he came on board, the University has improved on its productive level of raw production on the farm and the factory products.
He said, though, the Federal government has canceled the production of cassava bread, but the University has the capacity to have confectioneries that will linked with farm produce with the improved bakery facility.
He however, assured the Police Force Headquarters that, the University was ready to provide each product needed to meet up its daily need.
“The issue is that, since I came on board, we make it a point to improve on our productive level in terms of raw production on the farm and the process of value addition products from the factories that we have like the cassava factory that we have. We increased the capacity in November, 2017 and weve been doing better from different products coming from cassava.
“So, we are ready to provide each product the market needed, I must not however give the impression that we are going to get to the level of big companies like Nestle and the rest of them. We still have a responsibility as academic institution to focus on our mandate of teaching research and community development. But we shall produce to the point that, we train students and we shall be able to make some money from our products.”
“We are already the pacesseter, because we have the capacity. One advantage that we have in terms of the quality graduates. When we produce learned people going into agriculture, we have already set the pace for Nigeria. We’re going to improve on the IGP’s statement in partnering with us,” Prof. Salako averred.
