A group of prominent northern leaders who cuts across party divide are mounting pressure on president Buhari against his plan to appoint pastor Tunde Bakare as his chief of staff, Newdawn impeccable sources revealed.
Our sources added that this opposition has delayed the appointment of the renown cleric as his Chief of staff.
It was reliably gathered that, president Buhari wanted to appoint Pastor Bakare whose name has of recent been touted in media and political circles.
Investigations by our reporter revealed that the Northern leaders see the clerics appointment as a development which may sway power and decision making to the South west, a development they complained will be against the strategic interest of power blocks in the North who feels president Buhari should not gravitate power and control to the south west.
President Buhari has of recent declared his intention to form an inclusive federal government to stem complaints of marginalisation by sections of the country since his assumption of office.
Another choice of the President if he bows to their pressure is to make former minister of power Babatunde Fashola as the new chief of staff.
This choice is again been opposed by some hawks in the presidency who are clamouring for Katsina state governor, Nasir El Rufai ostensibly to ensure power remains in the North in 2023.
However, against all odds, the President is said to have made up his mind on the issue and may make his choice known later this week or next when he plans to unfold his cabinet.
