Bayelsa, Kogi governorship race: PDP nomination form sells for N20m

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has pegged the nomination form for Kogi and Bayelsa State governorship elections at N20 million.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier fixed November 5, 2019, for the two elections but later adjusted it to 16th of same month after stakeholders from Bayelsa pleaded for a change of date.

Briefing newsmen at the end of the 86th Emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, at the party’s headquarters in Abuja, on Thursday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan however said yhe expression of interest form would be N1 million while the nomination forms for women would be free.

When asked why the party decided to increase the prices of nomination forms, Ologbondiyan said the cost of conducting primary election was very high.

He pledged that the party was going to conduct a free, fair and credible primary in Bayelsa and Kogi states to produce credible candidates.

In a document signed by PDP National Organizing Secretary, Col. Austin Akobundu (RTD), the party disclosed that sales and return of expression of interest/nomination forms would commence on Monday, June 24 and close Wednesday, July 24 at the party’s national Secretariat in Abuja.

The document also revealed that screening of aspirants would commence as on Monday, August 19, 2019, and the primary election to take place on the 3rd of September 2019 in the states.

He expressed optimism that the PDP would win the governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states.
