Driver in court for allegedly stealing 1,680 crates of “33” Export beer

A driver, Kayode Abiodun, who allegedly stole 1,680 crates of 33 Export Larger Beer valued at N8 million, on Friday, appeared in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Abiodun, 23, whose address was not provided, is charged with two counts of conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in November 2018 at 5 a.m., at Abule Egba area of Lagos.

Emuerhi alleged that the defendant conspired with others at large, and stole 1,680 crates of the Nigeria Brewery beer valued at N8 million, property of Fafem Haulage Nigeria Limited.

He said that the driver of the haulage company was asked to deliver the goods, but unlawfully diverted the products to an unknown destination.

Emuerhi said the defendant was reported at Area “G” Police Command, Ogba and was arrested later during investigation.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).

Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N9 million with two responsible sureties in like sum.

Sule-Amzat ordered that the sureties must be must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.

The magistrate fixed July 18 for trial.
