Coast is clear for the Senate leader, Ahmad Lawan to emerge as Senate President of ninth Senate as Senator Danjuma Goje stepped down after closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.
Although, former Senate leader, Mohammed Ndume has refused to step down from the race, but with the decision of Goje to withdraw from the race, Lawan will emerge as Senate President.

Explaining the reason for stepping down from the race, Goje who spoke through his Twitter handle said that he stepped down out of his respect for President Muhammadu Buhari and the National interest.
He said,”Today, during my meeting with President Buhari at the State House, Abuja. The meeting with the President led to my withdrawal from the Senate Presidency. I took this hard decision in the interest of the country and out of my respect for the President.”
