FAAN scanners not made to detect drugs – FAAN CSO

Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has revealed that the scanners were not configured for drug detection.

The FAAN officials who is the Chief Security of Airports El- Yakub Usman Lamir, made this known before the Senate adhoc Committee Probing Circumstances that led arrest of Zainab Aliyu by Saudi Authorities.

According to Chief Security Officer, the scanners at Airports are not configured to detect drugs parceled in luggage.

Speaking at the event, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, accused Egypt and Ethiopian Airlines of running drug cartels at Nigeria’s International Airports across the country.

She explained that Zainab Aliyu’s ordeal in Saudi Arabia before the intervention of the Federal Government of Nigeria which led to her release was caused by a drug cartel collaborating with officials of the two airlines.

According to her, we have other foreign and local airlines operating at our airports, but Egyptian and Ethiopian Airlines have drug cartels operating at our International Airports.
