There are no bad Jobs by Alex Ogundadegbe

My name is Alex Ogundadegbe. And I am a teacher. I believe it is my calling to create a desire for you to get better at what you do. As long as you are legally employed or preoccupied with a job or work that brings money to your table, I think you can do much better than you are doing.
There are no bad jobs. There are only bad views of jobs that we have. Everyone who works can find a way to take his work to a higher level no matter what he does, whether he works for himself or is employed by an organization. No matter what you are doing now, you can do much better. It is not always a matter of education or enlightenment neither is it a thing of environment or government. This in sum is my philosophy. It is called Optimum Performance. In the weeks to come, every week, I hope to enlighten, inspire and motivate you towards greater prospects in life. We all need motivation. We can all do better. So why don’t you allow me to inspire you to get stronger, better and wiser so you can leave this planet fully accomplished with no regrets about what you could have, should have or would have done.
Life is war! So why not prepare for battle? Every job you do is like a battle, every time you do some work, someone is rating you. If you work in a private organization, you boss is watching over you; if work in a public sector position, the members of the community are interested in what you do; if you work for yourself, the customer is watching you. Have you heard the phrase: “The Customer is always right?” Sam Walton the founder of the Walmart chain of supermarkets, the largest supermarket chain in the world, coined the saying. He was not referring to the undesirable behavior of the customer in those words. He was talking about the quality of the product or the service. He claims since the customer is paying for the product, he has a right to the highest quality possible. Did you get that? “The highest quality possible”. Whatever you produce, make sure it’s the highest quality possible, it’s only then we can say that you have performed optimally!
Earlier on I made a statement: “There is no bad job, there are only bad views of a job”. Ask yourself: How can I do better at my job? What can I do to get to more people? What can I add that would make what I do unique? Several years ago, when my wife and I started building our house, in the area where we bought land there was scarcity of water. There was a man who had the foresight to drill a borehole in the area. He had not built his house. All that was on his plot of land was a borehole. Within a year of drilling, he was supplying almost everyone in the area with water. He was being paid between N2000 and N3000 a tank. His only resource was petrol for a generator. He was also renting out tanks for people who were building their houses. Business was booming for him, he could give out water to between 5 to 10 people a week. Just supplying water. That was all he was doing. Then a change began to occur. Some people in the area started drilling boreholes of their own, so his business no longer boomed as it used to, because the new borehole owners where giving out water free of charge! One day we got talking and he complained to me that business was in a flux. I asked him straight: “what is your next level?” Next level? He looked at me confused. There has to be something you can do about your business that would still make your relevant in this area.” There was need for a scale up. I told him: “Look, start packaging pure water and table water. Nobody is doing it in this area and you could make head way by supplying pure water sachets and table water to people in the area. He weighed the advice and decided that it was not worth it. He had to build a processing room and get NAFDAC approvals. Just about six months after we had our discussion, another person who did not live in the neighbourhood, begun to bring pure water and table water into the area. Each time I saw the new water company truck, I remembered my discussion with the first water man. He is still at the same level now. No upgrades, no innovations. Business has slumped.
In the weeks to come, I want you to visit this space and see the effect reading these articles will have on you. It’s time to perform optimally. I wish you well.
