Which car is better: Rolls Royce Phantom or Mercedes S600?

1431

Depends. A Mercedes-Benz S600 is a technological juggernaut compared to the Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Apart from the magic carpet ride of a Rolls-Royce, there’s one thing the S600 can’t do:

Be bespoke.

According to Mercedes’ online car-builder, there are 14 exterior colors, 4 wheel options, 8 interior upholstery options, and 6 wood trim options.

On the contrary, the Phantom is hand-built and offers over 40,000 exterior colors.

Furthermore, you can have them do this to your wood trim:

Or make your interior look like this:

’Cause you can obviously afford silk on your seats, right?

And that’s the start of just how much you can customize a Rolls-Royce.

If you can afford a Rolls-Royce Phantom, then you can afford to simultaneously own a Mercedes S600, and in my opinion in that case YOU SHOULD BUY BOTH. The Mercedes is the pinnacle of technology and is much more pleasurable and easy to drive. It is also quite discrete, in particular if you drive and live in areas where it is not a rare car (eg Greenwich, Beverly Hills, Manhattan, Long Island, Paradise Valley, Palm Beach, Bel Air, Paris, London, etc), and even if you drive it in areas where it is seldom seen (unless it is in a very poor neighborhood, in which you are not likely to go anyway), it will be acknowledged there as a successful man’s car but hardly noticed more than most other cars. The Phantom on the other hand will be looked at wherever you drive it, and people will take pictures of it, might stalk you, etc. You won’t go unnoticed. The best thing you can do is to have the S600 as a daily drive and the Phantom as an occasional drive when you want to make a point and enjoy an even better (and absurd) comfort while cruising. If you only buy the S600 while being able to own both, I would say you’re missing something.

In my opinon, these cars simply cannot compare.

Rolls-Royce Phantom:

List Price: $417,000

The Phantom is an ultra-luxury sedan designed for only the upmost comfort and luxury. It is built with care and with passion. It is meticulously crafted by professionals who genuinely care about the car. The line down the side of the car is hand-painted with the upmost care and precision. In fact, the caps on the wheels are self-leveling, meaning that the Rolls-Royce logo will never turn upside down – Rolls-Royce for BBC News – “Center Cap”. The Rolls-Royce Phantom also makes quite a statement to almost anyone that sees it. Finally, the air suspension absorbs almost any bump or imperfection in the road as if it were nothing. The Rolls-Royce Phantom simply cannot compare.

Mercedes-Benz S600 :

List Price: $170,000

Now don’t get me wrong, this is an exquisite car. However, it simply can’t compare to the Phantom. I would say it is more comparable to the Rolls-Royce Wraith or the Bentley Continental. For one, it’s a German car produced by a very large company. While in some ways this could make it better (more reliable, uniform characteristic), it loses the intricate crafting of the car almost entirely by hand that is characteristic of Rolls-Royce. Now perhaps you want a more subtle choice and don’t want to make a statement or be noticed, in that case the Mercedes is most definitely the better choice. However, you must take into consideration that by choosing the Mercedes you sacrifice some of the luxury of the Rolls-Royce.

In my opinion, the Rolls-Royce is the better car in every way. But, it really depends on what you are looking for in a luxury sedan.
