How ‘Okada’ rider was roasted to death in Benue

A commercial motorcyclist, also known as ‘Okada‘ rider in Nigeria, was electrocuted on Thursday morning on Old Otukpo road, Makurdi, Benue state.

Concise News understands that the incident occurred around Civil Service Commission area.

According to reports, the motorcyclist, who was reportedly conveying a woman, attempted to cross a high tension wire which was dangling from a falling electricity pole.

It was learned that the wire, which still had current running through it, had fallen as a result of a heavy rainfall on Wednesday night.

“We tried warning him against crossing the wire but he didn’t hear us. Apparently, he didn’t know why we were asking him not to pass the area and he probably didn’t see the naked wire. The lady he was conveying saw the danger and quickly jumped off the bike,” a national daily The Sun quotes a member of the community as saying.

His remains, it was gathered, have been moved to a morgue.

Spokesman for the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in the state, Adakola Peters, also said that as soon as the man’s motorcycle touched the naked wire he got completed burned and died instantly.
