Nigerians are still living in a dream.

Buhari is not good enough for Nigeria. Yes, I agree but who is good with this present political system?

It’s saddened me to realise how people are still naive to the problems in Nigeria. The most unfortunate things are that we think we’re running democracy because we set up political parties, campaign for election and won. The question; is that how are the successful democratic countries running their own?

Many of our problems start very small, but instead of fixing them on time, we keep sweeping them under the carpet. Today we have mountains of problems that have grown too difficult to solve. We have learned legislators whose duties are to find solutions by creating strong policies to sort things out and establish law around them to stop the reoccurrence. But they lack the political will and knowledge to tackle most of these problems, also they don’t see them as their duties.

There are lots of things to put in place before we can see positive change. Our political system is not designed to serve the country enough, and this has to change. Good government doesn’t automatically fall into place, and it cannot be willingly done by the set of politicians we have without pressure from the public.

It is obvious that we have over 110 problems not yet solved but none of our leaders are even talking about them, because they don’t benefit from doing good to the public. Yet they all want Buhari to perform miracles. It is a poor political system, wrong public decisions, and lazy politicians that contributed to the breakdown of our system.

Traditionally, the thinking has been that leaders know what is good for the country, but that doesn’t work for the true development these days. Obviously, we forget that Nigeria is a safe haven for corrupt politicians, where an individual person has more money than the country.

Therefore, we need to frown on corruption. Unless we address this, we will continue to leave in the dream. Buhari alone cannot do anything different until we reform our politics. We need to do our own part to support him in order for his party to deliver on their promises. Buhari is a  leader who can give people the chance to make the most of their talent work, not the one that will only supply people with little money that will not make an impact to our developments.

These problems are not far fetched. They are the things we see or experience daily such as:

Corruption: is the dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery. Every day we see new ways in which corruption or leadership is affecting the way we work and the way we live but no one is having a strong plan to eradicate it. With corruption running in our system, nothing good can come out of the country.

Lack of proper record: we need an effective recording system to know how many people are real Nigerians. We don’t only need accountability from the government, we also need from the citizens and without any good record of the individual, we cannot get it.

Lawlessness and lack of punishment culture: Nigerians doesn’t like to follow rules because our leaders don’t make it a priority. The law serves many purposes and functions in society. The principal purposes and functions are to establishing standards, maintaining order, resolving disputes, and protecting liberties and rights. The law is a guidepost for minimally acceptable behavior in society.

Without an effective court system, we cannot enjoy our democracy even if we change. We also need to establish punishment for whoever commit any crime, and the punishment must be severe – possibly by death before it can be a deterrence to others.

Lack of criminal record to know the good and the bad people: A criminal record or police record is a record of a person’s criminal history. The information included in a criminal record this may include arrests, charges dismissed, charges pending and charges of which the individual has been acquitted. Nigeria is full of criminals roaming around our political landscape, and if we don’t have the system to sort them out, they will continue to destroy the country. Using face to judge people is not a fair judgment, therefore, we must establish an effective criminal record to beef-up many investigations.

Tribalism and Nepotism: This is where the public kills economy by party donor single-handedly supply people like ministers and commissioners that are only loyal to them not to the country. The way they come to power doesn’t give them the opportunity to pursue development strategies and take a more interventionist approach to the economy. As long as the barriers remain and the gaps persist, we may never develop and poverty will continue.

Discrimination: we need the Discrimination Act to stop people misusing tribal game that is tearing down society. We need to classify tribalism as a crime and set up Task Force to fight it thoroughly. Task force is the unit, which can uphold a zero-tolerance policy against discrimination of any kind. Until then, there cannot be unity and our leaders will continue to use this avenue to destroy the country for their own selfish gain. wrong in Nigeria and

Money politics: We need to avoid money politics where everyone only looks for an avenue to make money in a way that is detrimental to the interests of many people and the country. This makes them inflates government contracts sometimes more than ten folds of the actual cost. This culture isn’t good for anyone.

Our political system is not being taken seriously enough, the environment is increasingly hostile. Nothing is actually working for the majority of our people. They are suffering, financially, mentally and physically, there is too much talk about change than practicality. It is through reform that the government can protect the right of the citizens and make them prosperous, not wishful thinking. We need a leader who can adopt electoral reform as official policy, which this country desperately needs. Nigerians can start rebuilding this country following the last election which has given the political control in the hands of the voters, but is that going to continue? The fact that we think we can succeed without changing our behaviors is really sad. All mentioned is just the tip of the iceberg.

Buhari has been blamed and his near-miraculous winning in the last election should be a wake-up call for him and the rest of us, this alone is enough to provoke a  soul-searching about our outdated political system.

We need to evolve before we become irrelevant. Nigeria’s news is no more recognised in the western world like it used to be in the 80s. Many things could have been accomplished in the last four years if the public doesn’t turn everything into politics. But if they can do their part now, Buhari’s government will survive this bump in the road and humiliation as it has rightly been.

The last election shows that people have started to go against corruption in Nigeria and it has already shown that it is possible to beat the rich and powerful once they involve in corruption. This is the beginning, we still have a long way to go.

However, those still sitting comfortably waiting for corruption to go away without making the effort are under illusions. Change in a country like Nigeria can only come from internal pressure for reform. Despite the fact that we continuously looking for the western world for support, the intelligent reasons are that no one can do this for us, unless ourselves. Their role of promising to help can merely be to assist us in our battles not to win it for us. We need to release ourselves from the shackles of these wicked leaders and follow the real route to modernity and change.

Buhari has been facing lots of baggage of propaganda and scaremongering from the people who are looking for a change where there is no system in place to make it happen

Many will not see anything good about Buhari’s  government no matter how hard he tried, not that his government will not perform, but because of our dysfunctional political system which makes some people benefit if they belong to the ruling party, therefore, everyone will only see their party member as a good candidate for change even if he or she is dishonest.

Nigerians should wake up and hold these politicians accountable for their failure to put many things right. Self-inflicted poverty is enough to galvanize the masses to demand change more than before and they have the power to provide it. We should not continue to stay quiet. We need to help make a change by doing something meaningful with deep purpose. We cannot leave everything in the hands of the politicians it won’t work.
