Barely 24 hours adter he was declared winner of the African Democratic Congress, Presidential primaries, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, visited former Transportation Minister Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi at his Abuja residence.
The visit appears a fence-mending effort after losing out in the ADC primaries.
Amaechi, who contested the ADC presidential ticket alongside Atiku and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, rejected the outcome, alleging it was rigged. Hayatu-Deen toed the same line.
In his acceptance speech after emerging as the ADC candidate, Atiku appealed to Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen to work with him to defeat the All Progressives Congress in the general election.
Today’s visit to Amaechi appears to be a move to present a unified front against the ruling party.
Atiku later posted on his X handle that the there will be a second leg to the visit.
He said: “This afternoon, I visited my brother and compatriot, former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chief Rotimi Amaechi, at his Abuja residence.
