Senior Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire has commended the peaceful nature of the ongoing Presidential and National Assembly elections in her Egbeda, Alimosho area in Lagos State.
Orellope-Adefulire arrived the polling unit in a black BMW jeep with number plate EKY-09 DP at about noon.
She told New Dawn that she came out to exercise her civic duty by voting for the candidate that can move Nigeria to the next level.
“We have come out this morning to do our civic responsibility by voting for the candidate of our choice who we believe can lead Nigeria and give us the divided of democracy. A candidate that can provide the needed support for infrastructural development, economic growth and increase the prosperity we need to lift more people out of poverty,” she said.
Stating further, the former Deputy Governor of Lagos State said, “I believe the situation is peaceful and it will continue to be peaceful. The essence of all these is to have a conducive environment and a conducive platform for the people to exercise their franchise without harassment and intimation.
“If we are able to do this, we will not only develop, but show the whole world that we are advancing though we are a developing country. We will show that democracy pays and we shall tell the world that our democracy is maturing,” she said.
She also commended the people in her poling unit for turning out to exercise their franchise.
“If everyone participates in the process, we will be speaking to the fact that the minority doesn’t take over from the majority. If you stay home and don’t vote, the wrong candidate might emerge and if you don’t come out you should not complain,” she said.
She was also happy that the exercise was peaceful at her polling unit and the other units within the Egbeda/Alimosho area.
“So far, so good, going by what we are seeing in this our community. There is peace and people are coming out. The president has said that no one should snatch the ballot box and no one should be involved in unruly behavior. After voting, people are seen playing football, others are free to move round to vote and we can be sure we are moving forward,” she said.
