A 43-year-old woman, Adenike Olaiya, on Wednesday, appeared in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly defrauding a woman of N4.7 million.
Olaiya, who lives at No. 24 Oguntolu St., Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and obtaining money under false pretence.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the defendant and others now at large, committed the offences on Aug. 22, 2018 at Elerinko Estate, Ota.
Mustapha said that the defendant and his accomplices conspired and fraudulently obtained N4.7 million from the complainant, Chioma Elijah under the pretext to procure a visa.
“The accused converted the money to his personal use instead of fulfilling the agreement between the two parties,” he said.
Mustapha said that the offences contravened Sections 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of one million naira with two sureties in like sum.
Akinyemi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
The magistrate adjourned the case until March 13 for further hearing. (NAN)
