A 40-year-old businessman, Aminu Sokoto, on Tuesday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly receiving stolen cables worth N2.4 million.

Sokoto, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen goods, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Friday Mameh, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 23, 2018 at 10.30 p.m. at Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

Mameh alleged that the defendant received the cables belonging to the complainant, Linear Engineering Company represented by Mr Kemi Akingbade.

“He received the cables knowing that they were stolen,’’ he said.

The offences contravene Sections 287, 328 (1) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs M. O. Ope-Agbe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety in like sum.
