Adopt stiffer surveillance to curtail security crisis – Governor Bello

Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello at the weekend called on traditional rulers to adpot stiffer surveillance measures to curtail the lingering security crisis in some parts of the state.

He made the passionate call at the palaces of the district heads of Sarkin Pawa and Kuta, Alhaji Musa Muhammed and Alhaji Garba Bangajiya respectively during his re-election bid and gubernatorial campaign to the headquarters of Muyan and Shiroro Local Government areas of the state.
In a press release signed by Mr Jide Orintunsin,the governors coordinator on press and publicity said this has become imperative to combat rising crime in the state particular and country in general.

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello said that armed banditry and kidnappings in some areas of the state require the combined efforts of traditional institution and government in order to quickly nip in the bud security challenges in rural areas of the state.

“The State Government is aware of the new trend of armed banditry and kidnapping in Munya, Rafi, Mariga and Shiroro local government areas. Government in concert with security agencies are on top of the situation and we are committed to ensuring safety of our communities by curtailing the activities of these nefarious indiciduals.

“It is in the light of this that, I call on our traditional rulers to be vigilant and conscious of their environment by adpoting stiffer surveillance measures in order to avoid any form of security threat. We should educate our people to always report any suspecious movement or person to the appropriate headquarters.

“As a people, it is important that we are security conscious at all times. When a stranger or group of people come into your community, you are obliged to know the purpose of their pitching their tent in your area,” the governor stated.

The District Head of Muyan, Alh. Musa Mohammed commended Governor Abubakar for the developmental projects in his domain, called on the Governor to come to their aid by up grading and improving the staff strength of the township General Hospital and also demanded for more security personnel in the area.

In his remarks, the District Head of Kuta, Alh .Garba Bangajiya also commended the giant strides so far recorded by the governor, called for the tighten up of security in the area and appealed to the Governor to look into infrastructural development in the area.

The governor later addressed large crowd of party supporters at Sarkin Pawa and Kuta respectively where he sought for their continued support and urged them to ensure victory for all candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress  (APC) at the general elections.
Meanwhile, the Governor attended the ECWA Women Fellowship Shiroro District Church Council Conference where prayers were offered for tge governor and for the success of the forthcoming general elections.

The Governor donated the sum of N5 million to the conference.
