2019 Elections: ‘My prediction for presidential poll’

Without prejudice to his shortcomings, Buhari looks set to win this election with a landslide. Yes, a landslide! He will win in northeast, southwest and northwest — the last two being the largest voting blocs in Nigeria — with serious margins. The Nigerian middle class, the fiercest of his critics, hardly votes. He will lose southeast by about 65 percent and parts of northcentral like Benue. He will lose south-south but not with margins seen in 2015 — no thanks to clear division in the ranks of its political leaders and vote mobilisers. I honestly don’t know where The Economist is getting its forecast. I don’t know. The PDP cannot win this poll from every indication and that is basically because its presidential candidate, admittedly having better understanding of economics, is NOT so trusted by the voting public. Not even in Adamawa, his own state, where an average person often questions his bonafides. And like I said a few months ago, the southwest will likely determine this presidential poll and, except anything changes, the region is more comfortable with Buhari/Osinbajo than it is with Atiku/Obi. Finally, I concede that only God enthrones or dethrones.
