Interesting times for the PDP – Kunle Odufuwa

1012

Not the best of times for PDP. Its Presidential candidate is off again to Dubai for reasons best known to him with Immigration and Customs waiting to do their job on his return. The Chairman of its Presidential Campaign Council Bukola Saraki is off to Saudi Arabia to seek forgiveness for his endless sins and to ask Allah not to disgrace him out of Kwara State. Saraki’s Chief Thug, Dino Melaye just released himself from a self imposed eight day detention arriving into the waiting hands of his stubborn guests, the Police with him displaying another new year theatrical.

The Vice Presidential candidate, Peter Obi is busy making contradictory statements and mobilising masquerades in the Southeast. Its national working committe is busy dosing.Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who dramatically renewed his membership of the party and boasted that he would lead it to victory has made a tactical retreat and gone under.

Its Galadima is wearing APC uniform to campaign for the PDP. Its one time Chief Caretaker Nyesom Wike has expressly refused to donate to the campaign and has distanced himself from the Presidential Candidate. Its Governors are afraid to either contribute to the national campaign council or fund its zonal campaigns.

The national chairman Uche Secondus regarded as the worst in the annals of the party is rarely seen or heard these days. Ayo Fayose has suddenly become silent, no thanks to his appointment with the EFCC. Its spokesman, Ologbodiyan regularly dishes out unsubstantiated accusations and raw lies against INEC and its officials while the Federal Government is also not spared by him. Ibiyinka Olabode George that had always boasted about his party’s intention to ” capture” Lagos has lost his voice . Members of the party across the nation except in the Southeast or South south are at a loss as to what is happening.

The one time self acclaimed powerful party has suddenly become palmwine powerless. Interestingly, this is the first time the party is contesting election without its being in power at the centre and had suddenly become lame and comatose without federal funds at its disposal. Its members that were throwing dollar around four years ago have suddenly been in search of Naira. The PDP that raised billions to fund its campaigns four years ago has suddenly become incapable of organising fund raising events. A party whose presidential candidate had hitherto been its rallying point now finds its presidential candidate as its dividing point.

It is therefore not surprising that its trumpeters called spokesmen have suddenly adopted a strategy of accusing the APC and the Presidency of attempts to rig the election so as to find a straw to hang onto when it is subsequently humiliated at the polls. But for now, things are rapidly falling apart for the party that had boasted that it would rule for sixty years and the centre may not hold for it till February 16 when it would see its true self without looking at the mirror. For sixteen years, the PDP looted the nation dry and coincidentally the figure sixteen will play a significant role when it is consigned once again to a position of shut up on February 16. To the PDP, what goes around, comes around. Nothing lasts forever.
