Governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Kwara State, Comrade Issa Aremu has assured the electorate in the north central state that his party would return victorious at the election since the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) underdeveloped the state in its 16 years in the saddles.

Aremu, a labour leader told his followers on Channels Television on Thursday that there are only two parties in Kwara State; Labour Party and the others.

“You know my pedigree in the labour movement, it is only an irony that those who never associated with the democratic process are the ones in government. I think it is time for us to know that politics is too important to be left to people who do not know about the democratic process,” he said.

Expressing sadness over the present condition of Kwara State, Aremu said, “Kwara State is one of the oldest states created in 1967, a pioneer state created by General Yakubu Gawan. It used to be number six in 1978, a decade after creation but today if you look at the GDP, we are number 28.”

Lamenting further, Aremu said, “The roads are filled with pot holes. 16 years of the PDP in charge of the state was a disaster; no water for our people.”

Complaining about the backwardness in the education sector, one of his priorities when he resumes as the state governor, Aremu, who attended the Ilorin Primary School and completed his secondary school education at the Ilorin Grammar School, remembered how good things used to be in the state.

“I grew up in Kwara State. I attended secondary school there, we were given free school uniforms, free books, but I am shocked today that Kwara State is among the states where we have children out of school,” he complained.

Relaying his campaign experience in Kwara North, the 1985 Economics graduate of the University of Port Harcourt said, “I just came back from Baruten, Kwara North and you would be shocked at the level of underdevelopment there. If you go to Ilesha Baruba, Okuta and the environs, you would be shocked.”

Expressing optimism at the election, Aremu said, “We are the party to beat in the election next month, everybody agrees that there are two parties in Kwara; Labour and the rest.

“The PDP is rooted in bad governance, there is poverty in the land and people are tired of the underdevelopment. Workers are denied their six months salaries, market women are complaining and the people are poor. So Kwara State is the home of expression come February election,” he said.
