Former Governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande has called on Nigerians to disobey any constitution that forbids development of the people of Nigeria.
Akande who told New Dawn in Lagos that the only way to restructure Nigeria is for the various units to restructure themselves and defy any law that restricts them.
He said such resistance would cause a negotiation as the National Assembly may not easily answer any prayer for restructuring.
He talked further on restructuring that his recent address in the United States addresses the motion.
He said, “If you read my address in the meeting with APC in Washington, I said the west has begun restructuring through the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) commission.
“Lagos State has joined the Oodua group if the west can come together to do its security to address insecurity and the east does the same thing, no Federal Government can stop them,” he said.
When asked if such would not contravene the existing constitution, Akande said any constitution that forbids development should be disobeyed.
“You have to disobey constitution where it stops you from developing. When it is going to hold you down, all bad laws must be disobeyed.”
According to him, the 1999 constitution is not the best for Nigeria but Nigeria has been shying away from that fact.
“The 1999 constitution is a bad constitution and we all know. We are only shying away from that. It is a bad law. Disobey any aspect of it that will not let you develop!” he directed.
Stating further, he gave an instance where he provides electricity for his home privately while the government fails in that responsibility.
“In my house, I provide my electricity for myself using solar, it is private, I generate electricity for my house because government electricity doesn’t reach me. And where it reaches me, I pay for it.
“Let them come and arrest me for that. I have a metre and I pay when the light comes,” he said.
When asked on his take on power rotation in Nigeria, Akande said, “North and South are multiethnic environments and it is fair to say power should rotate.”
He also told Nigerians that there is no law about the rotation of power in Nigeria but in the spirit of fairness, power should rotate.
“There is no law about it but in the spirit of fairness, let the power rotate. But Buhari is not the maker of the law, so the voters will decide.”
“Because the north has been in power in the last three and half years, we should allow that north to continue by voting Buhari and we should allow him to continue so that it won’t be too long before the power returns to the south,” he advised.
According to him, where the power goes in 2019 will also depend on the electorate.
“Where power goes in the south will depend on the voters and if it comes to the southwest, we would be happy but if you put another northerner, we have to wait another eight years before it comes to the south if Buhari is not voted in February. That is what I understand, he added.
The APC chieftain also explained the implication of voting another northerner.
“If you pick any other northerner, the person will spend eight years. So if you want it to come to the south faster, vote Buhari, you are the one that put it to me that that was what someone said.”
