Davido N90million wristwatch and his fairy tale life style

The above is the question fans of Davido and adults who are still young at heart and who can be counted as lovers of his music are asking.

Davido who landed on the scene with the release of his debut album that contained the monster hit “Omo baba olowo” is daily making headline news for all the wrong reasons. Well, you may say controversy and hype are of the tools of his trade.

Davido had turn heads with his controversial affairs with a relation of Bashorun Dele Momodu. An affair, which pitched him and Momodu and, which he capitalised on to release his “Osinachi” song. Again, controversy paid him.

Just when the nation and the entertainment industry was experiencing relative calm in respect of over hyped and controversial news from him, the young man pulled another stunt; this time, in respect of the wonders on wheel, which media reports said, he bought for his girlfriend, Chioma, whom he sang also about glowingly. The showroom price of the car, according to media reports, was enough to buy a bungalow sitting on a full plot of land in remote area like Lambe, in Ogun State, if not in Lekki, Lagos State, where the star lives.

While some believe that the money he spent in acquiring the wonders on wheel, was enough to set up the lady in business and not a car, which is not an asset. Others are of the opinion that he should be allowed to spend his money the way he wants. After all, we are in a free world.

The controversy trended for a while in the social circle. Again, the young man who also recently caused a stir when he reported at the Lagos State National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) Lagos State for his primary assignment when the nation was engulfed in a debate over the form of punishment former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, who presented a fake exemption certificate deserves. For that, he got a lot of kudos.

As if he has vowed to remain in the news whether good or bad, he openly threw his weight behind his uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke, who was gunning to replace the incumbent, Governor Rauf Aregbsola, as the governor of Osun State. He did that not minding whether his open identification with his uncle (and his discredited party, Peoples Democratic Party) who once said he taught Davido how to dance, will affect his relationship with his fans who are All Progressives Congress (APC) members and supporters negatively. The effect of that daring act remains to be noticed by his fans and admirers.

While the debate on that his action is still ongoing, Davido has court another controversy. Like a tortoise which is never scarce in tales by moonlight, he has set tongue wagging over the N90 million he reportedly spent on  a diamond encrusted Franc Vila wristwatch.

While some are of the opinion that it is possible and true. That he has the money, others say that it is a lie from the pit of hell; that it is a mere media hype that is usually associated with those in the make believe world. They even went ahead to posit that even if he is that rich why can’t he use the money he has spent in acquiring a car for a girlfriend and the wristwatch in setting up at least a cottage industry in his home state, Osun, which is one of the poorest states in Nigeria and which his uncle is aspiring to govern.

Others are even saying that if he is that rich and is at a loss as to what to do with the millions, he should have channeled some into the payment of salaries of civil servants in Osun who are owed up to 34 months of salary arrears.

A music promoter who refused his name in the print had this to say about the news report, “Abegi, leave matter. There is no doubt that the young man is one of the richest musicians in the land but then, who has seen the car. Who has seen Chioma in the car? Where does she park it, in her family’s rented apartment? And if it is their building where do they live? Yes, like I said before, the young man is rich but not as they are exaggerating it in the media. If he has too much money, let him help humanity. Workers in his home state are been owed, let him pay their salary. At pay that of a local government area, build a hospital where people can go and receive treatment for free.”

According to our source, “let him remember that he cannot dance on stage forever. Where are those who were there before him? Some are dead and died in penury. Let him use his money wisely now that it is flowing his way like river. Where are the Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who used Mercedes Benz to carry firewood, where is Sonny Okosun’s, Baba Sala and many others. They died in penury, Let him watch it o.”
