Fayemi’s inauguration: Promises accountability, transparency

Former Minister of Solid Mineral and Development and winner of Ekiti State governorship election, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has been sworn in as the new governor of the state.

Meanwhile, former Governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose, has reported to the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Fayose arrived at the EFCC’s office on Tuesday as his tenure expired whereby losing his immunity.

Fayose putting on a T-Shirt with the inscription ‘EFCC I’m here’, he arrived in the company of his supporters and members of his party including Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and his legal team led by Mr. Mike Ozhekome.

The former governor earlier promised to make himself available to the EFCC after his tenure.

According to Channels television, Fayose in a statement issued on 12 September, explained that several actions of the anti-graft agency, including the freezing of his account and an attempt to secure a temporary forfeiture of his property, indicated that there was a need to answer some questions.

He also said he took the decision due to his belief in the rule of law, noting that he is prepared to clarify all the issues surrounding the anti-graft body’s investigations on the stated date.

Meanwhile, new governor of the state,
Dr. Kayode Fayemi at his inauguration in Ado-Ekiti the state capital promised to be transparent and operate an accountable government.

The event had in attendance members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) including the former National Chairman, John Oyegun.

The former Minister was elected governor of the southwestern state on July 15, 2018, after defeating Fayose’s Deputy and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Professor Kolapo Olusola, and others in the election.

Fayemi in his speech said he was ready to transform and develop agriculture, tourism, infrastructure and education.

He also promised to transform the health sector and cater for the health of the people of the state especially the elderly.
